Biographical Information

The artist is a native of Northeast Tennessee, born in Kingsport.  She remained in this area through graduation from college, and becoming a resident of Rossville, in northwest Georgia, where she lived until 2002.  She then moved to Amelia Island, Florida where she set up her studio in Fernandina Beach.  She is now owner of Amelia SanJon Gallery where her studio is located in the Historic District of Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Educational and Professional Background

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in education at East Tennessee State University in 1965, she continued her education with workshops under several noted artists, including Wendell Mohr, Judi Betts, Lowell Ellsworth Smith, Jeanne Dobie, Carrie Brown, Carol Barnes, Arne Westerman, Wayne Wu, and Virginia Cobb and Judi Waggoner, Lana Grow, Nicholas Simmons.

Memberships

The artist was a founding member of the Chattanooga In-Town Gallery, begun in 1974, where she remained a regular participant in stable exhibitions of approximately forty artists until 2002.  She is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society, and the Tennessee Watercolor Society.  She is a member of the Jacksonville Coalition for the Visual Arts, Jacksonville, Florida, and the Jacksonville Watercolor Society, The Island Art Association of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and The Southern Watercolor Society.  The artist is a past President of the Tennessee Watercolor Society and a Regional Director of the Georgia Watercolor Society.  She has been selected for Who’s Who in American for several years.  Her painting, “Intracoastal Images” was selected in 2004 to be the cover design for the National Watercolor Society’s “Side by Side” Show held jointly with the Philadelphia Watercolor Society.  Her painting was also the cover design for the Tennessee Watercolor Society in 2008.  She has her paintings, glass creations and photography on display in her own Gallery/Studio, Amelia SanJon Gallery in the Historic District of Fernandina Beach, Florida.
